Full Job Description

This a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Position.

This is a Permanent WG-573-08 MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0843000 and is part of the MO Combined Support Maintenance Shop. This is a bargaining position.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidate must currently be assigned to a military unit in the Missouri Army National Guard.

Title 32 employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion).

Maximum Military Grade - CW4 (W-4) GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.

WG-08 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess specialized experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds; experience demonstrating ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches; experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades; and experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations.

Major Duties:

  • Completes log books, maintenance records, reports and other transportation documents for accurate accounting.
  • Operates primarily straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds.
  • Incumbent couples and uncouples the truck tractor and semitrailer or truck and trailer, and connects and disconnects the air brakes and electrical lines.
  • Incumbent maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground, in narrow or congested areas, between buildings and other vehicles, between parked aircraft and when positioning vehicles at loading docks.
  • Driver operates vehicles on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades and manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the semitrailer or trailer from jackknifing.
  • Assures cargo is properly loaded, distributed and secured. Performs operator maintenance on vehicles.
  • Ensures shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition, quantities and type of material.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
