Job Description

Summary

This job involves driving trucks and other vehicles to transport food and supplies between military commissaries and distribution centers in Germany, ensuring items arrive safely without damage.

About the Position: This position is located in Central Distribution Center Kaiserslautern at the Transportation Section.

The purpose of the position is to operate vehicles and materials handling equipment in the performance of duties in a Central Distribution Center.

Incumbent performs operating a truck tractor, semitrailer, vans, stake or other vehicles to transport perishable, semi-perishable or non perishable items from one commissary or central distribution center.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Have the ability to perform tasks including operating a truck tractor, semitrailer, vans, stake, or other similar vehicle to transport materials.

Load selected items and know methods to prevent damages during transport and expedite unloading. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews the work for completion.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.

(related to mobile equipment operation) Operation of Motor Vehicles Reliability And Dependability Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Major Duties:

  • Operates a truck tractor, semitrailer, vans, stake, or other similar vehicle to transport perishable, semi-perishable or nonperishable subsistence or items from one commissary or central distribution center.
  • Reports to a designated area for pickup of the vehicle to be used; obtains vehicle and vehicle utilization records.
  • Performs driver's preventive maintenance such as warming up motor; checking air pressure in tires, replenishing gasoline and water.
  • Places loaded stock carts into vehicle, utilizing either a forklift or a cart tugger, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of how to perform Preventive Maintenance on a variety of motor vehicles.
  • Applicant should be familiar with heavy truck operations with and without 5th wheel assemblies plus emergency air and service brake lines.
