About the Position: This position is located at San Antonio, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator ~ without more than normal supervision.

I have the ability to perform common operation of one or more types of gasoline, diesel or electric powered wheeled vehicles with gross vehicle weight of up to 26,000 pounds.

I can drive on the basis of specific trip assignments or regularly established routes over public roads at highway speeds under all traffic conditions.

I can perform operator maintenance on all vehicles operated.

I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.

(Related to Mobile Equipment Operation) Ability to Operate Safely (Non-motor Vehicles) Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Driver exerts moderate physical effort in operating and maneuvering the vehicle in and out of constricted areas including narrow city streets on and near the post and congested hospital and clinic parking lots.

May be required to maneuver vehicles over uneven terrain, improved or unimproved roads, and through congested areas exercising caution when backing to load or unload at docks, ramps, and similar locations.

Lifting and carrying supplies, materials and equipment weighing up to 40lbs is required. Occasionally, may handle items weighing over 40lbs.

Working Conditions: Driver operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and are exposed to danger of serious accidents.

Routes are over public roads at controlled speeds to ensure the passengers' safety and comfort. Portions of the route may be driven at highway speeds.

The buses are operated under non-emergency and emergency circumstances, such as in a mass casualty event. Major Duties:

  • Operate motor vehicles to include passenger buses; passenger vans; pick-up trucks; sedans; stake and platform trucks; 2- and 5-ton trucks; and special purpose vehicles such as parking lot shuttles.
  • Make operational inspections of vehicles for loose parts, damaged or worn ties, proper air tire pressure, adequate fuel supply, radiator fuel level, proper oil level, batter condition, and similar items.
  • Perform operator maintenance and complete vehicle operation records and logs in accordance with established directives.
  • Maneuver the vehicle in and out of constricted areas including narrow city streets on and near the post and congested hospital and clinic parking lots.
  • Assist in loading and unloading trucks using proper procedures for loading, protection of materials and safety required by the type and quantity of items being transported.
