Summary

This summer internship in the Minority and Small Business Affairs division of the South Carolina Department of Transportation offers hands-on experience in supporting small and disadvantaged businesses through certification processes, data management, and outreach events.

The intern will assist with administrative tasks like document processing, research, and attending meetings under supervision.

Full Job Description

**This posting will be used to fill one summer internship position in the Division of Minority and Small Business Affairs (MSBA) **

In the area of the Division of Minority and Small Business Affairs (MSBA), the responsibilities include:

Under direct supervision, intern will gain general exposure to all MSBA programs including Certification for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and Small Business Enterprise (SBE) along with DBE Supportive Services, including Business Development Center and Data Management and Reporting in addition to special projects for the Division Director’s staff.

  • Attends meetings, workshops, outreach events, and training sessions.
  • Assists with processing, reconciling and verifying documents for federal and state projects to include contract award data, subhauler’s requests, quarterly reports, and closeouts. Assists with scanning documents, using 10-key calculator to tally data and enter in database, and develop reports.
  • Assists with conducting DBE Onsite Reviews and processing Annual Update Applications per federal regulations.
  • Utilizes applicable databases to retrieve pertinent information that will assist in the review process and prepare reports for review and approval.
  • Aids in performing research and analytical-related functions and attends meetings/interviews with certified and prospective DBE firms.
  • Assists with preparing spreadsheets.
  • Attends with the division director selected relevant agency, local, and/or national committee meetings.

Pay Rate is between $17.00 - $23.00/per hour depending on qualifications.

Requirements

A high school diploma; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Applicants must be accepted into or currently in a two-year or four-year college or university program in Business Administration, Political Science, Marketing, Economics, Sociology, Gender Studies, Public Policy, Communications, History, Public Administration or related field.
