The primary purpose of this position, METALLIZING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR, WG-3707-10 potential 11,is To Layout, plan, and perform interrelated sequences of metallizing operations; including idependent setup, spraying various metal powders, wires and gases.
TARGETED POSITION: This position is a developmental WG-10 Target WG-11 position. This position may be filled at any grade level.
Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-10).
Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor.
Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 Metal Processing Family.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and lifting at shoulder level.
Objects handled vary in shape, size, and intricacy and require extensive handling extensive handling in coating processes, and in preparing and installing a wide variety of handling and holding devices.
Frequently handles objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Hoists, lifts, and other workers are available to assist in moving heavier items.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is usually performed in areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, heated, and safety controlled. Danger from burns and metal particles; cuts from sharp objects edges.
Eye strain from flames and heated metal. Work in high noise area of 85 decibels or above.
Protections from exposure to burns, scalds, and skin irritations often require the workers to wear uncomfortable safety equipment such as leather gloves. Major Duties:
Perform the full range of High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) work including operations that require coating of limited or precisely defined areas on parts that require special treatment and processing to insure adherence of the metallic deposit or coating; or require extensive or precise controls of the High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) process.
Set up and operate equipment by mounting article to be coated, adjusts emissivity when prototyping and processing parts to equalize and maintain proper temperature.
Operate a variety of specially built automatic or semi-automatic, and manual metallizing machines to apply any of a wide variety of wires, metal powders, and gases to build up, restore original dimensions and /or prevent corrosion of aircraft landing gear and engine parts.
Based on knowledge of metallizing processes, and equipment.
Use a variety of precision measuring instruments and equipment: such as inside, outside, and depth micrometers, gas/pressure gages, scales, and Vernier calipers.
