This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia SC 29203.
As the Mental Health Professional II, working under limited supervision of the Program Manager, I/ACTS Lead and as part of an assigned multidisciplinary treatment team, delivers evidence-informed, group and individual therapeutic interventions to assigned patients. Provides diagnostic and treatment-related services to a diverse population of adults in an inpatient setting. Requires the ability and flexibility to support patients enrolled in any G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital facility.
Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional II:
- Provide active treatment by conducting therapeutic groups to assigned patients.
- Conduct individual therapy for referred patients; provides consultation to the treatment team regarding patient progress and ongoing needs.
- Complete discipline-specific admission and annual assessments; consult with treatment team regarding treatment needs.
- Create individualized Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSPs) in conjunction with treatment team and provides ongoing support.
- Monitor individual practices to ensure auditing standards are met.
- Provide weekend, holiday, evening and hazardous weather coverage as needed/assigned. Work schedule: SUNDAY-THURSDAY, 8:30a-5p
- Attend staff meetings and serves on committees assigned.
- Complete all required trainings (SCEIS during birth month) to include Annual CPR Certification/Skills, MAPS/MANDT training. Maintain all
licensure requirements if applicable.
Requirements
- A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in SC and willing to work towards licensure in SC within first six (6) months of employment.
Additional Requirements- Ability to work with diverse populations across the lifespan; familiarity with stages of development; ability to move freely between patient units as necessary; computer knowledge and skills sufficient to fulfill job duties efficiently.
- Ability to function independently at a high level and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work weekends if needed and during hazardous weather.
- Must be able to bend, squat, pull, push wheelchairs and lift up to 50lbs.
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in a clinical field such as Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Counseling, Mental Health Counseling and/or Social Work; and possession of a license in SC as a professional counselor (LPC/LPCA) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

- Knowledge of psychopathology, family dynamics, family and group psychotherapy. Ability to identify and effectively utilize resources available in the community to accomplish objectives.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families and representatives of other professional disciplines.
- Ability to present clear and comprehensive oral and written reports.
- Excellent professional judgment and strong oral and written communication skills.
