This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) – Office of Mental Health, Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center, 250 Dewey Ave., Spartanburg, SC 29303.


Under limited supervision of the CAF Director, employee will function in a supervisory position within the School Mental Health program. Therapist will provide oversight and supervision of School Mental Health Program as well as provide coverage during extended absences or vacancies in designed Spartanburg County and Cherokee County Schools. Increase collaborative efforts between DBHDD Spartanburg, the School Districts, and Community organizations involving all in the implementation process. Provide services in a culturally sensitive manner. Assist direct supervisor with the task of increasing public awareness and appropriate utilization of Spartanburg Mental Health.


Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional II:

Supervise the School Based Services for DBHDD Spartanburg. Responsible for monitoring staff productivity.

Works with supervisee and direct supervisor to problem solve ways to remove barriers that may cause less than optimal productivity, as appropriate.

Ensure supervisees comply with all DBHDD Spartanburg Policies and Procedures.

In addition to the direct supervision of staff, the SBS Supervisor will be responsible for regular visitation to each school within the six districts with a total of 34 schools.

Will be responsible for monitoring each new referral, meeting with each principal and district directors of mental health services/special services and directly addressing complaints and concerns which is required to increase referrals for our school-based services to ensure each SBS clinician can meet and exceed their PCH.

Provide advanced clinical services incorporating evidence-based treatment practices for assessment, crisis stabilization, individual, family and group therapy as well as intake and ongoing assessment of the designated population.

Develops, implements, monitors, and modifies treatment plans. Provide case management and coordination with medical staff as needed to meet the treatment needs of the patients.

  • Adhere to all Corporate Compliance, Outcomes Evaluation, Research, and Continuity of Care Policies and Procedures. Maintain documentation of clinical services in accordance with local, state, and federal Quality Assurance standards.
  • Attend and participate in required/mandated training, supervisory sessions, departmental general staffing, interagency staffing, treatment team meetings, and other scheduled meetings as required by school and Mental Health Center.


  • Requirements

    • A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field and professional experience in a mental health, human service, or social science program.

    Qualifications

    • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

    Additional Information

    Post hire, employee must:

    • Be able to complete Managing in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) certification.
    • Have a sound theoretical knowledge of principles, methods, counseling practices, and procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral, developmental, autistic, and mental disorders.
    • Have the ability to listen and understand and effectively communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
    • Have knowledge of psychopathology and patient management within the behavioral health setting.
    In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional at the SC Office of Mental Health, applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care. This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post-graduate clinical experience.
