What You Will Be Doing:

Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Mental Health Officer, this position will:

• Provide direct mental health assessment, consultation, treatment planning, and crisis intervention to mentally ill inmates in any of the department’s 13 correctional centers where additional support is needed.
• Conduct diagnostic screenings and risk assessments through the evaluation of existing history, prior psychological testing, clinical observations, and direct interviews.
• Train, support and provide consultation to staff regarding difficult cases, department operating procedure, and best practices.
• Review documentation to verify that mental health services and processes comply with established standards, identify growth opportunities, and assist leadership in the implementation of improvements.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is based out of Anchorage but will be assigned to correctional centers depending on the needs of the department including but not limited to, the correctional centers located in Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer, Wasilla and Seward.

This position will work onsite at the assigned location and will work closely with a team of other mental health clinicians, psychiatric providers, medical staff and correctional officers.

It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

"Typically gained by" means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

Special Note:

Some positions require the incumbent be licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Counselor. This requirement will be addressed in the job posting.

Qualifications

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

SPECIAL NOTICE
Requires frequent travel within the State (normally traveling by car within the Anchorage/Mat-Su Valley area, some travel to further locations may include overnight stays).

RECRUITMENT DIFFICULTIES

Starting salary may be approved up to Step D-$3,621.75, if criteria are met.

post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN.

DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.

Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.

FINGERPRINT NOTICE

DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
