About the Position: This position is located at Ft. Detrick, Barquist Army Health Clinic. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing receptionist, recordkeeping, and/or miscellaneous clerical duties within an ambulatory setting; scheduling and/or coordinating patient appointments; serving as the main point of contact while receiving patients and/or visitors; and maintaining medical records in accordance with applicable laws.

This specialized experience is equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service.

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist.

A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Major Duties:

  • Respond to telephone inquiries regarding appointments; Obtain patient information for entry into applicable database.
  • Verify patient information for accuracy; Coordinate referrals of patients to other specialty services for future appointments.
  • Review I.D. cards to determine eligibility for care; Safeguard patient information to comply with HIPPA regulations.
  • Schedule appointments using an appointing software program; Receive patients in the front reception area of clinic.
  • Input medical information to complete patient orders/records.
  • Use various computer programs to electronically check-in/check-out patients.
  • Receive patients as the initial point of contact in the clinic.
