About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative and clinical support duties in a research, medical laboratory or medical treatment facility setting; performing case accessioning and reviewing medical records to identify malignant disease cases; entering and maintaining data in the Automated Central Tumor Registry (ACTUR) and other databases; coordinating with healthcare providers and external facilities to obtain missing or updated information.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Assists in compiling, maintaining, and updating tumor registry and pathology data in the Automated Central Tumor Registry (ACTUR) and other database systems.
  • Reviews and triages consultation request forms, reports, and supporting materials to ensure completeness and compliance with established submission requirements and guidelines.
  • Accurately accession and assign cases to the appropriate pathologists by sorting and entering case information into an automated database system, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.
  • Identifies missing or incomplete materials and coordinates with submitting facilities to obtain required documentation or specimens.
  • Assists in implementing procedures for receiving, processing, and maintaining cancer-related records and materials.
  • Processes the receipt, routing, and return of consultation materials and laboratory items, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Assists in managing final case reports and coordinates the return of materials to submitting facilities in a timely manner.
  • Maintains logs, spreadsheets, and records to support workload tracking and compliance requirements.
  • Responds to routine telephone and administrative inquiries and directs requests to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in providing tumor registry data to internal staff and external stakeholders for approved purposes.
