About the Position: Serves as a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) for a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience working in a clinical setting performing duties which includes: 1) Receiving patients and visitors in a medical treatment facility or clinic setting; 2) Scheduling patient appointments and/or coordinating patient referral appointments; and 3) Maintaining patient records in an automated medical/health records system database such as Electronic Health Record system.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial ortechnical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify forthis position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentageof the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of educationbeyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Major Duties:

  • Schedule appropriate patient appointments.
  • Enter, manipulate and retrieve information and data from automated medical systems and electronic health record system.
  • Receive patients and visitors in person, answer phones and respond to inquiries via other communication mediums such as email.
  • Assist patients with completion of medical forms/documentation based on established policies/guidelines.
  • Refer urgent messages and patient results for immediate action.
  • Maintain patient records/charts according to regulations, policies, or procedures.
  • Utilize office automation systems to complete administrative tasks.
