Summary

This job involves working as the first point of contact for patients and visitors at a military medical facility, handling tasks like scheduling appointments, managing records, and responding to emergencies over the phone or in person.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in scheduling appointments, verifying patient information, and maintaining medical records using automated systems (or equivalent at GS-04 level)
  • Four years of education above high school in business, secretarial, or technical fields (or a combination of education and experience totaling 100% of requirements)
  • Proficiency in entering, manipulating, and retrieving data from automated systems
  • Ability to receive patients and visitors in person or by phone, ensuring completion of necessary forms
  • Skills in reconciling end-of-shift reports, monitoring appointment delays, and communicating with staff and patients
  • Capacity to respond to emergency calls and notify medical personnel
  • Experience resolving administrative complaints and referring others appropriately

About the Position: This position is located at the 87th Medical Group, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using an automated system to schedule patient appointments; receiving patients and visitors to verify information and determine the nature of the visit; and preparing and maintaining patient medical records.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Enter, manipulate and/or retrieve information and data from automated systems as appropriate.
  • Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically.
  • Ensure the patient completes all necessary forms prior to being seen by the provider.
  • Reconcile end-of-shift/end-of-day processing and reports.
  • Respond to emergency calls and notifies emergency medical personnel.
  • Monitor and communicate delays in scheduled appointments to the appropriate staff and patients.
  • Resolve complaints of a local administrative nature and refer other complaints to the appropriate authorities.
