About the Position: Serves as a Medical Support Assistant located in the outpatient center at NH Jacksonville. Position is at the patient check-in desk, with coverage duties for other clinic areas.

Hours are from 0730-1630 M-F with Federal Holidays and weekends off.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, 1) providing customer service in the areas of scheduling patients via telephone; 2) entering or retrieving patient medical records; and/or 3) utilizing automated healthcare systems.

OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Schedules medical appointments by telephone, and occasionally in person using MHS Genesis computer system.
  • Verifies patient demographics in MHS Genesis registration on each phone call.
  • Appropriately transfers patients to the nurse call center, the emergency room, or other provider to ensure that they receive the medical information intervention that they require in a timely manner.
  • Compiles and submits, utilizing MHS Genesis, telephone consults to providers or clinics, as required by patients.
  • Acts as liaison with assigned specialty clinic, ensures that there are adequate numbers and types of appointments available.
  • Provides information to beneficiaries regarding services available based on their enrollment status and availability of providers and capacity.
