About the Position: The Medical Support Assistant position is located at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Jacksonville, FL, within the Directorate of Radiology, Mammography section.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation for DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical and/or receptionist duties in a medical treatment facility such as monitoring, scheduling and rescheduling patients for treatment, initiating, assembling, and/or filing medical records.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

Preferred: Experience in Radiology or Mammography Major Duties:

  • Answers radiology inquiries, reviews and edits outgoing medical correspondence, memorandums and medical reports.
  • Types a variety of reports, technical and administrative correspondence, forms, diagnoses, reports of treatment and tests, medical correspondence from handwritten drafts, voice recordings, or general instructions specifying the content of the item.
  • Provides medical data to Radiology Quality Improvement and section supervisors for tracking and trending various activities to include pregnancy statements, shielding and incomplete documentation for other radiology statistical purposes.
  • Monitors for Teleradiology contract usage and prepares bimonthly estimates of usage for the OIC and Practice Manager/Administrator.
  • Prepares and maintains Radiology patient files for both individual record jackets and automated database/spreadsheets in order to collect and summarize individual and collective data.
  • Contacts contract teleradiology personnel to obtain reports and/or addendums needed in patient radiology reports or to complete work order tickets.
