Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as the first point of contact in a military health clinic, where you'll greet patients, schedule appointments, manage their records, and handle administrative tasks like processing referrals and providing information on clinic policies.

It's a support role in a busy medical office setting at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, using computers for most tasks.

A good fit would be someone organized and friendly with customer service experience, comfortable with paperwork and basic office tech, and able to type quickly.

About the Position: This position is located at Army Health Clinic, Moncrief, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Recruitment incentives MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates.

Salary negotiation MAY be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing administrative support performing clerical duties to include maintaining patient records; directing patients and visitors; and utilizing automated systems.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as the initial point of contact to greet and receive patients.
  • Schedules appropriate patient appointments to include coordinating or scheduling appointments with other clinics or specialties.
  • Maintains all patients’ records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation.
  • Performs clerical and administrative functions related to patient intake and discharge.
  • Processes referrals and medical documentation.
  • Provides information about the clinic and/or hospital policies, procedures, and locations to patients, family members, or other medical treatment facility staff
