We are seeking a Medical Director for C.M.

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, C. M. Tucker, Roddey Pavilion, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Medical Director, you will report to the Deputy Director of Long-Term Care. You will be responsible for leading and managing medical and clinical services for an array of programs that provide long-term care treatment. Services include the assessment, planning and directing of policy and staff / treatment resources to ensure appropriate level and quality of medical/clinical care, the direction of medical risk management, the direct supervision of Medical Staff, Infection Control and Credentialing. Provides medical treatment services to residents. Collaborates with the Nursing Home Administrator to ensure quality health standards and serves as a member of C.M. Tucker Leadership.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide comprehensive care by diagnosing physical disorders, developing and overseeing individualized treatment plans, and prescribing medications to be administered by nursing staff under physician supervision.

Complete admission H and P, routine follow ups, acute-mandatory follow up discharge summaries.

  • Serve as a medical liaison with residents and their families, providing clear communication, guidance, and education regarding treatment plans, clinical progress, and care decisions.
  • Lead the planning, development, and oversight of all aspects of the Long-Term Care (LTC) medical policies, clinical programs, and treatment protocols, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, best practices, and directives from the Deputy Director.
  • Design, implement, and continuously evaluate systems to monitor and improve the quality of medical and clinical care across all resident populations, including providing recommendations related to program development, acuity management, and budgetary considerations.
  • Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and supervision to medical staff, trainees, and interdisciplinary team members; promote staff engagement, morale, and professional development.
  • Develop and oversee educational and training initiatives for medical staff, non-nursing clinical personnel, and residents, establishing clear standards and competency expectations.
  • Create and implement recruitment and retention strategies to ensure adequate medical staffing levels and continuity of high-quality care.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies and regulations, including but not limited to Cultural and Age-Specific Awareness, Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, harassment-free workplace standards, professional development plans (PDPs), training requirements, time and attendance policies, and performance evaluation processes
  • Requirements

    • Licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina
    • Completion of required residency and four (4) years of experience in medical services programs

    Qualifications

    • Three (3) years of experience in a clinical administrative capacity
    • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus

    Additional Information

    The selected candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Long-Term Care service and the ability to communicate effectively.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of current treatment programs and agency policies with clinical, administrative and support personnel.

    Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of organizational and managerial concepts. May be exposed to blood and other hazardous materials. This position must maintain a valid Driver's license.

    Post hire, employees must:

    • Must be able to perform MAPS and emergency care to patients/residents with cardiac and/or respiratory arrest and other emergencies.
    • Must have the ability to use required various office equipment, medical care equipment, etc.
    • Must maintain a valid driver's license
