Job Description

Summary

This job involves managing patient medical records at a military hospital, including organizing files, handling requests for records, and providing information while keeping patient privacy secure.

It also includes greeting patients, updating electronic systems, and responding to emergencies.

About the Position: This position is located at Martin Army Community Hospital in Patient AdministrationFort Benning, GA 31905-5637 This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes answering patient inquires, maintaining medical records files, and utilizing electronic health record systems.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Establishes and maintains custody of patient medical records according to the Army Records Information Management System (ARIMS).
  • Provides information about medical records without compromising confidentiality of the patient in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, and policies and procedures IAW Medical Record Administration and Health Care Documentation.
  • Maintains documents for annual records retirement and separating, screening, selecting, assembling, packing and preparing records for shipment to the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC).
  • Prepares requests for medical records to and from other medical facilities, patients, their authorized representative, or other third parties.
  • Receives patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically.
  • Maintains all patients' records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation ensuring each entry contains proper patient and health care provider identification.
  • Responds to emergency calls and notifies emergency medical personnel.
  • Operates the Composite Health Care System (CHCS), updating and correcting patient information and reviewing past and present patient appointment history.
