Requirements

As a Medical Records Assistant for the Department of Corrections, you will prepare and maintain electronic, paper, and film medical records for those incarcerated at SCI Dallas.

Specific duties will entail reviewing and cross-referencing records for accuracy and completion, as well as ensuring medical reports and documented entries are compliant with DOC policies and federal, state, and accreditation standards.

You will also compile all inmate medical records for those being paroled or transferred from the facility and notify the appropriate entities of the transfer.

Within this role, you will also prepare statistical reports, verify medical coding on various reports, and assist the medical department with data entry.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours/week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding; or
  • Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
