Requirements

Medical record technicians are responsible for para-professional medical record functions at hospitals or allied medical care facilities subject to departmental policies and regulations, or from any of its personnel to whom authority is delegated to act.

Provide assistance to a higher-level medical record technician or to a medical record librarian by performing para-professional functions in a medical record department of a hospital or allied medical care facility; and perform other related duties as assigned.

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


General Experience: Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of progressively responsible experience in a medical record department of a hospital or allied medical care facility, or in an allied health or medical program, which included such duties as filing medical records, posting data onto medical records, cross-indexing data, compiling numerical data from medical records or reports, typing medical reports, and work of a comparable nature. The experience must have demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, office practices and procedures pertinent to medical records processing and maintenance, common office appliances and equipment; and the ability to perform arithmetic computations, follow oral and written instructions, operate various kinds of office equipment and deal tactfully and effectively with others.
