Base salary range: $41,966 - $54,557

You will serve as the Medical Management Specialist with the Health Administrative services located in Seattle, Washington.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 03/30/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07.
The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

Major Duties:
Assist medical center staff with medical related problems, including involuntary commitments, orders of protective custody, and management of unruly or severely disturbed patients.
Maintain contact with clinical staff, police, and support staff to resolve patient related problems as they arise.
Assist clinical staff with scheduling appointments, patient check-out, ordering tests, and processing of clinical encounter information.
Oversee determination of applicants' eligibility; obtaining income and insurance information for appropriate nonservice-connected applicants, counseling nonservice-connected veterans to determine ability to defray costs of medical care elsewhere.
Interpret VA rules and regulations relating to determining legal entitlement to benefits relating to hospital admission; nursing home, domiciliary, community care, outpatient care, dental treatment, prosthetic appliances, patient transfer; and beneficiary travel.
Provide administrative authority, guidance, and advice to Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) and other clinical staff concerning administrative matters for operation of the medical center during other than normal tours.
Assist providers in determining appropriate non-VA resources and travel arrangements to provide necessary medical treatment while evaluating choices that could contribute to medical center cost savings.
Facilitate urgent transportation for Veterans as needed, to include flights for VA organ transplant candidates being sent out of state.
Investigate unusual incidents occurring during tour involving welfare, injury, abuse of patients, loss of personal property, and infractions of VAMC rules.
Provide information on VA eligibility and benefits to Veterans, relatives, survivors of deceased patients, funeral directors, government representatives, ambulance companies, private physicians, attorneys, insurance companies, and other VA medical center employees.
Assume control of communications and notifications in event of local and civil disasters, in accordance with local facility disaster plan and succession roster for designation of action disaster coordinator.
Report any actions that may adversely affect the safety of the patient or staff. Perform other duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
