Summary

This job involves helping process medical consultations in a military hospital by tracking referrals, entering data into health records, creating reports, and communicating with patients and staff about medical needs.

About the Position: This position is located at Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Benning, GA. Work is performed Monday thru Friday 7:30-4:30 except holidays.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes processing electronic medical consultations, inputting results into patient's health records, retrieving data for reporting purposes; and utilizing office automation equipment and/or software within a medical facility.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. AND Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist.

A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors Advancement requirement to positions up to GS-05: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.

Major Duties:

  • Utilize an electronic health care system to track medical referral consultations.
  • Create reports to track referrals deferred to the network.
  • Contact beneficiaries with referral details.
  • Report on the status of pending medical results or evaluations with network providers.
  • Contact appropriate medical staff for pending medical documentation required for consults.
  • Ensure referrals deferred to the network are administratively closed per hospital guidelines.
