Job Description

Summary

This job involves designing, testing, and installing complex mechanical systems for oceanographic survey equipment on Navy ships, including planning projects and leading teams to ensure everything works smoothly.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the NAVIGATION AND MECHANICAL SYTEMS (N711) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirement: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience and/or professional level mechanical engineering knowledge and experience in applying mechanical engineering principles, practices, and skills to the analysis, design, fabrication, modification/reconfiguration, testing, and installation of complex mechanical systems/components supporting oceanographic mission survey systems on Navy vessels.

Experience with project execution and team leadership capability associated with mechanical engineering efforts to support multi-mission systems.

Experience identifying technical requirements and effectively planning and scheduling resources to meet project objectives.

Experience with engineering experimentation, testing, design, installation and evaluation techniques.

  • You will be responsible for carrying out all long-range planning, establishing and documenting engineering plans, and overseeing shipboard engineering installation.
  • You will establish Initial Operational Capability, and transitioning systems to Full Operational Capability.
  • You will coordinate with NAVOCEANO Production Codes, as well as Resources and Budget Department, Plans Programs and Requirements Department, Program Sponsors, and customers to develop overall technical requirements.
  • You will conduct long-term planning for assigned engineering projects and areas of technical specialty.
  • You will determine suitability of adapting commercial products and perform make-or-buy decisions.
  • You will oversee Shipboard Engineering Installation and Perform planning, coordination, and on-site management of shipboard system installations.
  • You will seek and document appropriate internal and external approvals to meet regulatory requirements and maintain configuration management.
  • You will establish Initial Operational Capability and develop, document and execute final test and acceptance plans for assigned systems.
  • You will work with manufacturers, other government agencies, and technical representatives to resolve all post installation operational problems and workarounds prior to transition.
