Job Description

Summary

This job is for an experienced mechanic who handles repairs, maintenance, and inspections on trucks, heavy construction equipment, and off-road vehicles powered by gasoline, propane, or diesel.

It involves troubleshooting complex issues, leading junior staff, and ensuring everything runs safely and efficiently at project sites in Tarrant County.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in heavy-duty mechanics who enjoys fieldwork and has a strong safety focus.

Key Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED (or 4 years of related experience as substitute)
  • Three years of full-time automotive mechanic experience (heavy truck, off-road, or diesel preferred; trade school certification can substitute for one year)
  • Current and valid Class C driver's license upon hire
  • Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements required within 8 months of hire
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and complex diagnostics on vehicles and equipment
  • Experience directing or training other mechanics or helpers
  • Preferred: CAN experience, ASE certifications, or specialty training in areas like A/C or off-road equipment repair

Full Job Description

Performs advanced level mechanical, electrical, preventative maintenance on gasoline, propane, and diesel-powered engines and/or heavy-duty off-road construction equipment. As a senior level mechanic, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs trucks and/or heavy off-road equipment.

Requirements

  1. May be responsible for the daily refueling and maintenance of construction equipment located at project site(s).
  2. Performs preventative maintenance on all vehicles and construction equipment.
  3. Performs state or pre-state safety inspections.
  4. Performs simple to highly complex computerized diagnostic testing/evaluation procedures to diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment.
  5. May direct the work of other mechanics or helpers, teaching/instructing them in appropriate procedures and practices, relays instructions from supervisor to others.
  6. Tests equipment for safe and efficient operation.
  7. May transport equipment.
  8. Makes road calls and field repairs as necessary.
  9. Orders or requests the acquisition of parts and supplies as needed.
  10. Designs, fabricates and builds special projects for vehicles and equipment.
  11. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED. An additional four (4) years of related experience may substitute for a high school diploma.

  • Three (3) full-time years of experience as a full-time automotive mechanic required (heavy truck/offroad or diesel mechanic strongly preferred). Certification of graduation from an accredited Mechanic Trade School may substitute for one year of experience.

  • A current and valid Class C driver license is required upon hire.

  • A Class A CDL with a combination tanker and hazmat endorsement is required within eight (8) months of hire. May require certification in a specific trade or training such as A/C or ASE coursework.

  • Controlled Area Network (CAN) experience preferred.

  • Additional technician certifications and licenses preferred.

  • Diagnosing and repairing highly complex off-road construction equipment with specialty certifications and licenses preferred.
