Full Job Description

This position is in the Central Supply Room of the Environmental Management Service (EMS) at the Baltimore VA Medical Center (VAMC).

The incumbent is responsible for the facility housekeeping equipment and supply inventory, including receipt, storage, maintenance, and distribution of HAZMAT and cleaning products, cleaning tools, and powered equipment like vacuums and buffers.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Effort & Work Conditions: The incumbent is often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.

Lifts and carries items that weigh up to 75 pounds or more and moves equipment which may be bulky and cumbersome, weighing a few hundred pounds using weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Work is performed in all areas of the medical center to include patient care areas and administrative office areas.

Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or under dimly lit lighting conditions.

Regular exposure to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas.

When working in hazardous materials areas, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes.

Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel-toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Incumbent may be required to work weekend and holiday duty tours.

The Incumbent may be assigned to any shift authorized based on the needs of EMS in Baltimore. Major Duties:

Major Duties May Include: Receives, stores and ships bin and bulk supplies, materials and equipment; Prepares shipping and inventory documents for manual or automated inventory systems; Selects specific storage locations within framework of general warehousing plan; Rotates stock, check for outdated materials and maintains the appropriate safeguards and temperature controls; Handles delivering and warehousing materials including hazardous, flammable and temperature sensitive products; Participates in conducting inventory of stock on hand and communicates discrepancies; Ensures products and shelving are marked with corresponding identification numbers; Load and unload shipments from trucks and other material conveyances; Makes off-site deliveries in motor vehicles typically with a gross weight of less than 4500 pounds; Performs other related duties as assigned.
