This job involves supervising a warehouse team in a VA medical center, where you'll handle receiving, storing, and distributing supplies and equipment to support hospital operations.
You'll ensure everything is organized, safe, and delivered on time while working with vendors and internal staff.

This position is located in the warehouse area of the Supply Chain Management Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area at the Charles George VA Medical Center, in Asheville, NC.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent performs work that requires kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing, and standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time.
He/she uses hand-trucks and other types of material handling equipment to move, load, and unload large drums and various size containers from trucks and containment areas.
Frequently lifts, moves, carries, and load items and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds.
Incumbent is sometimes required to lift and move items weighing in excess of 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment and/or with the assistance of other workers. Major Duties:
Duties may include but are not limited to: Receives commodities and equipment from delivery trucks. Ensures items are stored properly and keeps an inventory of all stored equipment.
Works with Property Management to ensure delivery of new equipment and pick up of items being turned in.
Works with Purchasing Agents and Supply Technicians to ensure prompt delivery or shipping of items.
Uses Material Handling Equipment effectively and safely including electric power lifts, electric hand trucks, and pallet jacks.
Works closely with Vendors, Carriers and internal hospital customers to assure a safe and effect warehouse environment Determines the work flow for timely performance of assignments based on emergencies, known needs, and delivery requirements Develops or oversees the development of plans for storage and arrangement of stock in accordance with delivery requirements Works with Engineering to ensure floor plan and overhead changes are reflected in Medical Center blueprints and schematics Consolidates materials and provides maximum space utilization and protection of storage and movement of hazardous and toxic materials Ensures Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and infections control standards are maintained at all times Acts as a communications conduit between higher level supervisors to pass along priorities and resolves conflicting priorities among the warehouse's major segmented areas Work Schedule: 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Materials Handler - Supervisor/PD043000 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not authorized Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized
