Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a materials engineer or chemist for the Navy, focusing on supporting the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft and weapon systems at a depot in North Carolina.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a MATERIALS ENGINEER/CHEMIST in the MRO Engineering Department/Depot Support Team of FLTREADCEN EAST.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Understanding of Fleet Support Team (FST) and/or Maintenace Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Engineering, developing program sustainment and acquisition engineering support; 2) Managing technical and professional services required to sustain a weapon system; 3) Evaluating new approaches, guides and standards to make engineering decisions.

  • You will provide technical decisions and engineering dispositions, both oral and written, to the depot process shops.
  • You will update engineering and laboratory instructions for their assigned technical specialty.
  • You will prepare and edit detailed authoritative scientific reports for aerospace materials and industrial processes, failure analyses, procedures and special projects.
  • You will actively participate in many diverse projects with local and national impact through research and continual review of progress of personnel assigned to support these projects.
  • You will relay industrial support priorities and schedules and resolves any assignment or deadline issues.
