Job Description

Summary

This job involves being the top expert on additive manufacturing, a 3D printing technology, for the U.S.

Navy's ships and submarines, helping to create and approve new parts while ensuring they meet safety standards.

You'll develop guidelines, work with teams across the Navy, and represent the organization in discussions about this technology.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-13 or equivalent level managing complex engineering systems for structural integrity in naval or similar contexts
  • Professional engineering background in materials engineering, per OPM standards for 0800 series positions
  • Expertise as a Subject Matter Expert in Additive Manufacturing (AM), particularly for metal components
  • Ability to develop and implement specifications, standards, and guidance for AM in naval applications
  • Experience coordinating with technical teams, ship design managers, and program executives for approvals and requirements
  • Strong skills in interfacing with communities and providing technical input on AM processes and materials
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain necessary security clearance for Department of the Navy roles

Full Job Description

You will serve as a MATERIALS ENGINEER in the Materials Division, SEA 05P2 of NAVSEA HQ FIELD SUPPORT.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band NH-03 (GS-13) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer managing complex systems developments and engineering systems to resolve challenges for naval structural integrity.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will hold the position of Subject Matter Expert/TWH for Additive Manufacturing (AM).
  • You will provide national technical stewardship for Additive Manufacturing for all ships and submarines, including new build, overhaul, and in-service.
  • You will develop and implement specifications, standards, guidance and other engineering requirements documents that support additive manufacturing implementation within the NAVSEA enterprise.
  • You will coordinate with other Technical Warrant Holders and Ship Design Managers for requirements document development and component approvals.
  • You will interface with communities to identify and prioritize efforts to advance understanding of additive manufacturing.
  • You will work with PEOs and other NAVSEA Directorates to coordinate additive manufacturing components approvals.
  • You will represent NAVSEA 05 within and outside of the Department of Navy as SEA 05's subject matter expert on additive manufacturing.
  • You will provide technical input into additive manufacturing process and material related decisions, with a focus on the production of metal AM components.
