Summary

This job involves leading a team of masons in repairing and maintaining stone, brick, and tile work on historic House Office Buildings in Washington, D.C., including tasks like interpreting blueprints, assigning work, and handling emergency repairs.

Full Job Description

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division, Masonry Branch.

The incumbent is a Mason Leader and performs work as a journey-level Mason.

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position.

You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position: Ability to perform and supervise employees in the mason trade.

Your resume must show that you have sufficient experience to perform the duties of the position as described in the vacancy announcement. Major Duties:

The tour of duty hours will be Monday – Friday 4:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

Duties include, but are not limited to: Pass on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led.

Review and interpret diagrams for work to be accomplished and decide the best methods to complete the work.

Responsible for the decorative upkeep and repair of the interior and exterior limestone, sandstone, granite, brick, block, glass tile, ceramic tile and vinyl tile of the House Office Buildings.

Help plan, lead and direct the work of temporary and lower-graded stone and brick masons on major construction or repair jobs.

These jobs include erecting scaffolding, epoxy injections, erecting swing stage and drilling through stone and other types of walls and floors as well as seasonal maintenance to the buildings' exteriors.

Review work to be performed, interpret blueprints or sketches and decide work methods or processes best suited to complete the work. Perform other duties as assigned.
