Job Description
Summary
This role involves guiding visitors on tours of the historic USS Wisconsin battleship and sharing knowledge about maritime history at the Nauticus museum in Norfolk, Virginia.
It requires delivering friendly customer service, ensuring safety, and working as part of a team in a busy, visitor-focused setting.
Ideal candidates are outgoing history buffs with experience in museums or attractions who enjoy interacting with people and handling fast-paced environments.
Key Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent, with considerable experience in a museum or visitor attraction environment
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Science, History, Museum Studies, or related field
- Strong ability to work effectively in a team with co-workers and volunteers
- Excellent customer service skills for leading small and large groups, including VIPs
- Physical ability to walk, climb ladders, stand for long periods, bend, reach, and navigate small spaces in various weather conditions
- Capability to make quick decisions in fast-paced settings, including emergencies and inclement weather
- Availability for part-time schedule (20 hours/week) including weekdays, weekends, and some holidays

Nauticus is a maritime discovery center offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, and Schooner Virginia to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military.
Battleship Crew Members deliver exemplary customer service while providing information about the USS Wisconsin. Crew Members will perform various types of guided tours throughout the Battleship and will rotate inside Nauticus interpreting and offering insight to pertaining exhibits.
Department Hiring Hourly Wage: $16.00
Requirements
Department Hiring Rate: 15.75/hourly
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Offers guest guided tours and information about the USS Wisconsin and Nauticus.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively join peers and volunteers in a team environment with the ability to make strong decisions in a fast-paced guest centered environment.
- Maintains quality guest experience along with safety in the assigned work area.
- May be required to be Lead of a shift as necessary.
- Carries out emergency action plans.
- Supports ship-shape readiness for guest.
- Works in a team environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Additional Information Work hours: Year-round position working Weekdays, Weekends and some holidays, with a varied schedule 20 hours per week.
