Full Job Description

You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC SUPERVISOR I in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Applying knowledge of Submarines and/or Surface Ship systems, components, comportments and tanks, working in a formal marine machinery mechanic trade.

Applying knowledge of the Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) processes.

Experience planning the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools provided through the (AIM) process for assigned units of work.

Monitoring the status of assigned work in relation to the overall scheduled requirements including unanticipated or emergency requirements.

Providing technical direction to subordinate workers the marine machinery mechanic trade.

Providing general knowledge of work techniques, methods, processes and equipment used by journeymen in any other shipyard trade.

  • You will be responsible for the quantity and quality of the work performed by subordinates, applying expert knowledge of the methods, techniques, processes, procedures, tools, materials, and practices of the marine machinery mechanic trade.
  • You will evaluate the skills of the team members and seek guidance and advice from the trade (non-marine machinery mechanic) expert or trade supervisor contact for the assigned project when necessary.
  • You will be responsible for carrying out EEO policies and communicating support of these policies to subordinates and coordinate efforts with EEO official during the development and execution of policies civilian personnel.
  • You will assure equality in determining qualifications, selections, assignments, training, promotions, details, discipline and awards to employees.
  • You will cooperate and participate fully in the development of an EEO Affirmative Action Plan and efforts regarding staffing, motivation and training to develop all employees.
  • You will ensure that minorities and women are considered for training opportunities and are also nominated/appointed to boards and committees.
