This position is located at Independence National Historical Park in the Facility Maintenance Division, which also supports Edgar Allan Poe NHS, Thaddeus Kosciuszko NM, and Gloria Dei NHS.
The role performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and cement work; operates vehicles and equipment; and completes repairs to buildings and grounds.
Assists higher-graded workers and performs tasks such as painting, welding, and road surface repair.
Requirements Continued: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.
In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized.
In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:
Performs plumbing tasks including installing and repairing hose bibs, valves, fixtures, toilets, faucets, and piping; cuts/threads pipe and winterizes systems using standard tools and materials.
Performs basic electrical repairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating wiring and fixtures using common hand tools; work is completed under guidance and reviewed.
Operates and performs operator maintenance on cars, trucks, vans, and forklifts to transport materials; may operate dump trucks and perform minor vehicle maintenance and repairs.
Performs building repairs including constructing, installing, and repairing doors, windows, cabinets, trim, concrete/wood steps, and walkways using hand and power tools.
Performs concrete work such as setting simple forms, mixing, pouring, leveling, and repairing concrete surfaces; work involves limited complexity and is reviewed.
Performs other duties including painting, welding, assisting higher-graded workers with utility systems, and grounds work.
This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition.
Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last.
This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension.
No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.
