Summary

This job is for a Maintenance Ranger at Barnwell State Park in South Carolina, where you'll help keep the park running smoothly by fixing buildings, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the grounds are clean and safe for visitors.

Full Job Description

Barnwell State Park is a community favorite among the residents of Blackville, South Carolina. One of 16 state parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, Barnwell is best known for its great fishing spots. Three small lakes host a large population of crappie, bream, bass and catfish.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees. Performs duties necessary for maintenance and upkeep of state parks to include repair and construction of facilities, operation and repair of motorized equipment, groundskeeping and landscaping activities. Assists with the administration and operation of a state park; and assist park visitors with quality customer service.

1) Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals.
2) Performs miscellaneous repairs and park improvements to include carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, and groundskeeping.
3) Collects and accounts for revenue and produce required reports.
4) Repairs and maintains motorized equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on facilities and equipment. Keeps maintenance records.
5) Performs and directs clean-up and housekeeping activities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of park grounds and facilities.
6) Practice and promote teamwork within Barnwell State Park, throughout the agency, and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year general maintenance experience.

Additional Requirements:

1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, various cleaning agents, and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays, including overtime as needed. Comfortable using Windows, MS Office, and working with data entry on computers. Will be required to clean and maintain cabins, campgrounds, and day use facilities.
2) Ability to read and understand written procedures and directions; have the ability to perform simple accounting and administrative duties as required. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to operate a variety of power tools.
3) Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.

Qualifications

Managerial or supervisory experience preferred.
Janitorial experience preferred.

Actual Job Location: Barnwell State Park

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
