The primary purpose of this position is to Work with and lead a crew of non-supervisory workers within the Structures shop.

The position plans, coordinates, and lead crews during in-house construction and repair projects.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance & Operations Work Group.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.

Knowledge of carpentry, masonry, and sheet metal, door systems, welding, and machinist work methods and techniques and skill in constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying structures and ability to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, structural soundness, and acceptable appearance.

2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures, and ability to apply safety and environmental standards and requirements. 3.

Knowledge of shop mathematics and regulations to plan, compute, and lay put assigned projects. 4.

Skill in formulating plans and templates involving straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles and planes and in developing patterns to include geometric projection and triangulation and the ability to read and interpret complex building diagrams sketches, and technical specifications 5.

Skill in setting-up, operating and maintain a variety of precision equipment and power tools. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, standing, and stooping.

On-site typically requires crawling climbing on ladder, scaffolds, and rooftops.

Work encompasses serious physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier material.

Requires physical effort in which includes prolonged sanding on production lines; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolds; working in cramped and awkward positions or extended periods.

Frequently requires heavy lifting up to 90 pounds while carrying building materials. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work inside shop and outside on the job sites.

In shops, is exposed to moderate to high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment.

At job sites may be exposed to weather conditions and hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders and are subject" cuts, bruises, burns, and contusions.

May require work in confined areas, such as crawl spaces and attics, which may be dusty and dirty. Use protective devices such as earplugs, safety glasses, respirators and gloves. Major Duties:

- Performs two or more of the following non-leader duties: Wood Working, Sheet Metal Mechanic, or Door Systems/Welding. - Responsible for leading workers. - Performs work direction responsibilities.

- Ensures that employees being lead utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

- Uses.and maintains tools.
