Full Job Description

This position will be assigned to the JBSA Resource Management Office at JBSA Fort Sam Houston, TX.

This is a Regular Part-Time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week, may work up to 40hrs/week. Employees appointed to Regular category positions are eligible for benefits.

Must be able to bend, lift, and work in awkward positions both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. Who May Apply: Open to everyone.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Requires experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting trades. Experience which demonstrated the ability to operate, control and clean heavy powered equipment.

Must have ability to learn new techniques and procedures associated with the preceding.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.

Basic knowledge of the standard techniques in the maintenance of buildings and equipment. 2. Knowledge and experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting trades. 3.

Must have ability to read and compute simple arithmetic. 4. Be skilled in use and operation of common hand and power tools and measuring devised of the painting/carpentry trades. 5.

Ability to learn new techniques and procedures associated with the preceding. 6. Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions. Major Duties:

Performs a variety of trades and laboring duties involving maintenance, repair and improvement of facilities and equipment.

Duties require trade practices associated with painting, carpentry and laboring work.

Assists in the maintenance and repair of building interiors to include painting, laying tile and other flooring material, replacing faucets and commercial toilets, replacing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tile, removing of cobwebs in hard-to-reach areas and small repair work on walls, ceiling, and floors.

Conducts the preventative maintenance on FSS and MWR vehicles, equipment, grounds, and facilities. Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc.

Moves heavy boxes/cartons by hand or dolly, opens crates and boxes using crowbar, cuts bands using shears and stacks boxes and cartons as directed. Moves and arranges furniture.

Basic Housekeeping of engineering spaces and work areas. May be required to drive vehicles up to and including 5-ton truck to move furniture and other items to various buildings on the property.

Assists with starts/stops and manages work orders in Work Order Management System.

Using a shovel, digs ditches and trenches where a pick is not needed to loosen the dirt, and where grading and sloping is not required.

Fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places using shovel, hand tamper and rake.

Runs hand lawnmowers or (domestic type) powered lawnmowers when this does not require heavy physical effort (for example on steep grades).

Clears small trees and bushes using handsaw, hatchet, or clipper, chain saw, and wood chipper. Performs general maintenance of NAF Vehicles and helps to maintain the NAF Fleet.

Assist with the turn in and receiving of equipment and vehicles. Performs other related duties as assigned.
