The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Mechanic.

The Aviation Maintenance Mechanics work involves the maintenance of mechanical equipment, checking and inspecting equipment, and responsible for making required repairs.

The Maintenance Mechanic position is responsible for checking and inspecting equipment, and responsible for making required repairs at North Perry Airport (HWO).

This is a well-rounded position responsible for all types of equipment and mechanical systems, performing preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, combustion engines, gasoline motors, vehicle and pedestrian access gate maintenance and repair and other major mechanical hydraulic units of equipment.

Responsibilities also include keeping accurate and organized records of materials used and having the ability to estimate time and materials needed to complete assigned tasks.

The Mechanic is also required to create sketches for coworkers and subordinates to follow; inspect work for quality and conformance to specifications and instructions; keeps time and work records and prepare and submits reports as needed.

Familiar with Airside operations and ability to close portions of the airfield to conduct maintenance on runways, taxiways, lights and signage.

Familiar with safety precautions and movement and non-movement areas on the airfield, familiar with radio communications to receive clearances.

All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must be able to perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a twenty-four (24) hour per day/seven (7) days per week operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement.

All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires two (2) years in maintenance work depending on area of assignment or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida E Class Driver's License with authority to drive a county vehicle for duration of employment
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain Airport Security Badge with Customs Seal.

Requirements

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Perform Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment that supports the airport to ensure they operate efficiently and safely.

Performs general maintenance such as replacing air filters, pressure cleaning, replacing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, fixing roof leaks.

Diagnose and Repair Issues: Troubleshoot mechanical problems, diagnose faults, and repair or replace defective parts to minimize downtime.

Read Technical Manuals: Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to understand manuals, machinery operations and maintenance requirements.

Safety Inspections: Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.

Document Maintenance Activities: Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and time spent on tasks.

Collaborate with Team Members: Work closely with other maintenance staff and departments to coordinate maintenance activities and optimize equipment performance.

Use of Tools and Equipment: Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively to perform maintenance tasks.

Perform emergency troubleshooting and repairs when breakdowns occur General Building Maintenance: Perform general maintenance tasks on buildings and facilities as needed, which may include plumbing, and electrical work,.

Recommend improvements or modifications to enhance system performance Aviation Department Maintenance Division Staff are all essential positions.

At any given time, staff may be required to in a work environment which conditions may expose them to weather, humid conditions; smoke, fumes or dust; tight or confined spaces; hazardous materials; or shaking, rocking and or vibrating equipment, loud noise, stairs and ramps, and large moving equipment.

Must possess the ability to drive a County vehicle for the duration of employment. Ability to obtain / maintain Airport security & customs badging.

Ability to obtain / maintain Airfield driving privileges movement & non movement. Performs related work as assigned.
