The Maintenance Mechanic 3 position is primarily responsible for vehicle maintenance, maintenance records, inventory control, and asset management at the Fire Training Academy.
The incumbent serves as the point of accountability for ensuring vehicles, equipment, and assets are properly maintained, tracked, and available to support training operations.
In addition, the role performs a combination of journey-level equipment and vehicle repairs and semi-skilled tasks such as electrical diagnostics, HVAC troubleshooting, and carpentry to support facility operations.
The employee is expected to work independently, develop preliminary cost estimates for repairs, maintenance, and facility alterations, and present prioritized recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor 3.
As a lead role, this position also may provide direction and support to part-time instructor support staff.
About the Division:
The Washington State Fire Training Academy, situated on a 51-acre site just east of North Bend, Washington, provides training to over 5,000 firefighters each year.
In addition to fire service personnel, the facility is utilized by a range of other agencies, including the FBI, ATF, military, insurance companies, the maritime industry, and both local and state law enforcement.
The academy includes four classrooms, two administrative buildings, a 44-bed dormitory, a fully equipped dining facility, multiple storage structures, and a variety of specialized training props.
To support operations and maintenance, the FTA also maintains a fleet of pool vehicles and heavy equipment.

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Must possess a valid, unrestricted Washington State driver’s license.
Must possess basic carpentry skills including layout framing, concrete form work.
Must be able to use basic hand and power tools safely, effectively, and efficiently.
Must possess basic computer skills for sending email, completing time and travel documentation, documenting and closing work orders.
Must possess excellent customer service skills.
Must be able to lift 75 pounds repeatedly.
Must be able to climb a ladder.
Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Must be able to work outdoors in all types of extreme weather.
Must be self-motivated and able to direct and communicate with others to achieve necessary work assignments.
