Job Description

Summary

This job involves maintaining and fixing utility, electrical, heating, and air conditioning systems in a medical school facility to keep everything running smoothly.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic in the Division Facilities, Office of the Assistant Vice President for Administration, F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine of UNIF SRVS UNI OF THE HLTH SCI.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

  • You will install, modify, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair new or existing utility systems, electrical systems, high temperature piping systems and commercial/industrial HVAC-R systems
  • You will conduct visual, audible and mechanical checks for proper temperature of conditioned spaces, proper oil levels, unusual noises, overheated bearings, loose connections, faulty insulation, and frayed or loose belts, gaskets and pulleys.
  • You will plan test procedures and determine the proper kind and type of parts and equipment needed.
  • You will tighten connections, insulate exposed wires, and clean and lubricate moving parts, test for proper connections and replace items such as belts, fans and fuses.
  • You will trace and locate defects using the proper tools and testing devices, and accomplish repairs according to accepted trade practices.
  • You will work using oral instructions, blue prints, and written work orders.
  • You will check air handling equipment and work with other tradesmen to accomplish tasks.
