Maintenance Custodian
Camp Murray, WA
The Washington Military Department (WMD) is seeking a detailed-oriented Maintenance Custodian to join our team. The ideal candidate takes pride in maintaining clean, safe, and well-functioning facilities while contributing to a positive environment for staff, visitors, and customers. This role plays a vital part in ensuring our building operations run smoothly through routine cleaning, basic maintenance tasks, and proactive problem-solving.
The Maintenance Custodian reports to the Air Guard West State Maintenance Manager and will be responsible for general cleaning duties, minor repairs, equipment upkeep, and supporting overall facility needs. Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and the ability to work independently are essential for success in this position.

Requirements
Responsibilities include: Responsible to perform maintenance of improved, semi-improved and unimproved grounds, landscaping and maintenance of associated systems to include irrigation, exterior lighting, cleaning of pavements, streets, walks and parking areas.
Obtain and hold pesticide application certification of pesticides, herbicides and lawn chemicals.
- Perform custodial duties required to achieve AF Custodial Level Service for facilities, clean entries, clean gutters and exterior surfaces. Collect and transport solid waste to compaction station and operate compactor.
- Accomplish assigned work orders. Perform routine preventive and scheduled maintenance of electrical, plumbing, drain and waste systems, carpentry and minor/route building repairs. Assist journey-level staff to complete service and maintenance work.
- Perform duties permitted to support Integrated Pest Management (IMP) plan for indoor and outdoor pest control programs, building treatment, response and removal of pests.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS One year of experience in janitorial services, grounds maintenance, building maintenance, and/or construction.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: - Grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
- Cleaning methods, safety practices, chemicals, equipment and supplies used in custodial work.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building trades.
Skills, abilities, and competencies to:
- Perform light building maintenance.
- Operate custodial appliances.
- Operate and drive light truck to transport supplies and equipment, haul refuse/garbage.
- Operate and maintain electric or gas-powered lawn equipment.
- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
Additional Information
Compensation: Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background Investigation: Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and to obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) in order to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret-level security clearance. Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files. The processing of background checks can take up to six months post-employment. Failure to successfully pass a background check may be cause for termination.

Driver's License:
- Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
- Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.
Military Facility:
Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation.
Camp Murray utilizes the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) for entry to the installation. Must meet access requirements / background check which can be found in the
Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01). This includes possession of an Enhanced Driver’s License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.
Work Hours: The normal work schedule is Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:30pm (4/10 schedule).
Telework:
This position is not eligible for telework.
Emergency Assignment:
Upon activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO), incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.
Travel:
Occasional statewide travel may be required up to 5% to include overnight stays.
