Maintenance Crew Leader II – Urban Wildlife (Temporary)

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing duties over personnel assigned to servicing parks, trails, trailheads, tributaries, and other city owned properties. Duties will primarily be focused with on implementation of the Urban Wildlife Management Plan within the assigned areas, although it may be required to assist in other areas assigned by supervisor. Responsible for performing other duties assigned and following through with instruction from supervisor. Responsible for training new personnel, instructing and ensuring daily maintenance duties are being performed by staff. Exercises direct supervision over assigned crew.

Shifts will rotate between the schedules below:

• 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Monday-Friday
• 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
• 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Saturday-Sunday
• 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Saturday-Sunday

Rotating work weeks. Shifts are subject to change to accommodate seasonal adjustments, evening coverage, weekends, and holiday shiftwork based on department needs.

Requirements

Supervises, schedules, and may participate in the activities of skilled and semi-skilled workers assigned to perform maintenance, repair, and installation functions.Maintains records and prepares progress reports.Maintains inventory of parts and equipment; orders parts and equipment as necessary.Performs inspection of equipment, structures and systems for proper operations.Provides protective safety equipment and ensures it is safe and operational; checks work site for safety hazards and reports to supervisor.May supervise grounds maintenance and landscape functions.Provides daily reports both verbally and in writing of work needed, accomplished or in progress.Ensures all equipment is operating in an appropriate and safe working condition.Inspects work in progress and upon completion to evaluate performance according to instructions.Communicates with assigned crew and may often perform movements of walking, sitting, stooping, climbing, standing, reaching, and crouching to operate all equipment used, may frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds when performing or inspecting maintenance work.Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).

Four (4) years of maintenance experience to include one (1) year experience as a foreman or crew leader.

Must possess the appropriate Texas driver's license plus any required endorsements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to read and write English.
• Basic computer skills
• Experience with outdoor sanitation and maintenance
• Experience with vegetation maintenance.
• Experience operating small engine equipment such as chainsaws, pole saws, string trimmers, and blowers.

Applicant Information

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
