About the Position: This position falls under Defense Health Agency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Directorate of Administration; and requires knowledge of coordinating and providing mail services for the command and branch medical clinics to include receiving, picking-up, sorting, routing, and metering all incoming and outgoing classified and unclassified mail.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes screening, receiving, sorting incoming/outgoing mail or delivering mail to various locations or departments.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants may not be promoted more than 2 grades within the preceding 52 weeks. Major Duties:

  • Coordinate and provide mail services for the command and branch medical clinics.
  • Plan the day-to-day operations of mailroom.
  • Make recommendations for changes in work to improve services rendered.
  • Route incoming mail.
  • Sort outgoing mail into a variety of specialized categories such as first class, registered, etc.
  • Maintain an official serial log for retrieval and location of all outgoing correspondence.
  • Operate a mail pickup truck to pick-up and distribute mail and mail matter of assorted size and weight between various buildings.
