Job Description

Summary

This machinist role at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard involves programming and operating advanced machine tools to create precise parts for naval equipment, while planning operations and managing computer systems to ensure accurate production.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a MACHINIST in the Mechanical Division, Production Resources Department of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

  • You will program for point-to-point and continuous path machine tools having contouring capability.
  • You will interpret the scope and intent of work orders for obtaining and ordering the proper types of materials for advance planning.
  • You will plan and develop the sequence of operations necessary to machine the parts.
  • You will analyze flex-o-writer or computer output manuscript and readout sheets, checking for completeness and errors.
  • You will manage CAD/CAM graphic computer systems.
  • You will prepare program manuscripts, listing all necessary information such as mathematical definition of part, machine coordinates, machine feed, and speeds.
