The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking a DCNR Lifeguard Supervisor to lead the lifeguard team at the Frances Slocum State Park swimming pool.

In this role, you will oversee daily lifeguard operations, ensure public safety, maintain order, and assist with related maintenance, custodial, and clerical tasks—all under the guidance of the Park Manager.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule, supervise, and train lifeguards; ensure adherence to rotation schedules and work rules.
  • Monitor pool activities, remain alert, prevent accidents, and respond to emergencies.
  • Perform rescues and administer first aid and CPR as needed.
  • Enforce swimming rules, assist visitors, and report violations to park rangers.
  • Inspect and maintain safety equipment, pool areas, and facilities.
  • Complete required reports and forms, including logs, inspections, and water quality records.
  • Take water samples, read meters, and report chemical needs or equipment issues.
  • Perform basic maintenance and custodial tasks to keep the pool and bathhouses clean and safe.
  • Operate radios using proper procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time seasonal employment without benefits
  • Work days will vary. Employees will be scheduled for 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM shifts, five days per week, for a total of 37.5 hours weekly.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two seasons of experience as a Lifeguard (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • All employees must obtain a valid Lifeguard Certification or Lifeguard Management Certification issued by the American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association, or other authority recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health within 14 days of employment.
  • All employees must obtain valid certifications in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR within 14 days of employment.


Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
