Job Description

Summary

This job is for a head lifeguard at a hotel pool in Hawaii, where you'll supervise other lifeguards, ensure swimmer safety, maintain the pool, and handle rescues or first aid when needed.

It's a temporary role focused on keeping guests safe and operations running smoothly.

A good fit would be someone with lifeguarding experience who is physically fit, good with people, and able to get required safety certifications quickly.

Full Job Description

Serves as a Temporary Recreation Assistant (Head Lifeguard) in the Aquatics Department of the Hale Koa Hotel.

This announcement is open from 4/15/26 to 4/18/2026 to current Hale Koa Hotel employees only. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities (KSAs) as they pertain to this position.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: 1.

Must obtain an American Red Cross "Lifeguard" certification or nationally recognized equivalent (i.e., Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification) within a month. 2.

Must obtain an American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer" (CPR-Pro) certification or nationally recognized equivalent (i.e., Ellis & Associates (CPR) Certification) within a month.

3. Must obtain an American Red Cross "Automated External Defibrillator" (AED) certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e., Ellis & Associates AED certification within a month.

4. Must have 12 months of experience in pool operation as a lifeguard with experience in swimming instruction and pool maintenance. 5.

Must be able to use sound judgment, accomplish tasks within established timeframes, and possess good people skills requiring the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and grammatically correct manner.

Must have experience with office functions such as preparing and managing reports. 6.

Must possess or have the ability to obtain an American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration" certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e., Ellis & Associates Oxygen Administration certification within two weeks of employment.

7. Must be able to complete a 500 yd. swim test prior to each scheduled shift.6. Must be able to perform all lifeguard and CPR exercises. 8.

Within 6 months of hire must obtain a pool operator's license. 9. A Lifeguard Instructor certificate is preferred. 10.

Must have experience with office functions such as preparing and managing reports. Major Duties:

As head lifeguard, oversees the accomplishment of work and evaluate pool operation efficiencies. Assist manager by insuring adequate staffing of operations with personnel and the safety of users.

Directs lifeguards as required in the performance of their duties. Performs checks and makes adjustments in water quality levels and insures that the pump rooms are maintained and operational.

As head lifeguard, supports the management team in decision making and responding to concerns of guests and users. As lifeguard, responsible for the life guarding of guests at the pools.

Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required. Coordinates and conducts aquatic swimming and water survival training. Attends and or arranges for the conduct of aquatics and safety training.

Maintains peak physical condition. Maintains daily logs and records as required. Carries out work in accordance with policies, regulations, directives, and requirements.

Exercises judgment on routine matters where discretion is permitted. Keeps manager informed of events or items of significance. Enforces and carries out policy and requirements.

Issues towels and checks identification as required. Responsible for the safeguarding and protection of funds, property and personnel.
