Job Description
Summary
This job is for a lieutenant in a South Carolina prison, where you'll lead security teams, manage inmate safety and daily operations, and ensure everything runs smoothly in a medium to high-security setting.
It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in corrections or law enforcement who enjoys supervising others and handling high-pressure situations.
You'll need to complete training to get certified in the role.

Full Job Description
Under general supervision,- Plans, coordinates, and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned units of a medium/maximum security facility.
- Assumes primary responsibility for security for all building and public property.
- Make routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
- Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
- Investigates complaints and violations: arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
