Under the guidance of a Nurse Supervisor, this position provides daily nursing care, training, activities, and treatment to the people who live at OIDD-Saleeby and serves as the Nurse Scheduler for the OIDD-Saleeby Nursing Department:

  • Plans, maintains, and executes a complex Nursing schedule to provide 24/7 Nursing coverage at OIDD-Saleeby Center.
  • Assists Mental Health Professional with neurological component of resident's active treatment plan.
  • Provides daily nursing care, training, activities, and treatment to the people who live at the Regional Centers in accordance with all licensing and certification requirements, the South Carolina Nursing Practice Act, and BHDD-OIDD.
  • Monitors health conditions of the individuals and reports findings to medical provider and appropriate staff. Assists physician/practitioner with examinations and treatments as needed.
  • Maintains a safe and sanitary living and working environment.
  • Ensures accountability and protection from harm for all individuals through appropriate and thorough documentation.
  • Provides "as needed" coverage on short notice for unexpected/emergency call outs for various nursing shifts, inclement weather events and/or disaster scenarios.
  • Provides mentoring and on the job training (OJT) to new and less experienced nurses as directed.
  • Attends all mandatory and necessary training provided by BHDD-OIDD to maintain adequate knowledge of current policies/procedures.
  • Maintains all required credentialing and certifications for an LPN position at BHDD-OIDD (LPN licensing, CPR certification, etc.).

The position for this posting is located at Saleeby Regional Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Hartsville, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This position is eligible for up to $3.75/hour shift differential for applicable shifts!

Sign-on bonus for eligible candidates will be distributed after one, six, and twelve months of successful continuous Full-Time employment.

Requirements

Successful completion of a registered nursing education program for professional nursing or an equivalent course of study from a registered nursing education program per Section 40-33-32 of the South Carolina Nurse Licensure Act. Licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of South Carolina and one (1) year of professional experience as an LPN.

Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing and their relationships to the prevention and control of disease. The knowledge and application of professional conduct in the care of consumers and with other staff. The ability to maintain accurate records and accountability including detailed record keeping and effective time management skills involving multitasking and prioritizing in high pressure situations while maintaining a clear, focused direction. Utilize decision making skills in regards to patient treatment as well as taking and recording vital signs, applying/changing dressings, and assisting patients with personal hygiene. The ability to communicate effectively with patients, their family members, and other members of the healthcare team. Physical abilities necessary to perform the functions of patient care. CPR Certification.

All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.


State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, employees of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
