Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping library visitors by checking out books and materials, organizing shelves, running simple programs like story times, and handling basic tasks like cataloging and inventory at a military base library.

It's a hands-on role that requires interacting with people of all ages and doing some physical work like lifting boxes.

A good fit would be someone organized, friendly, and comfortable with customer service who enjoys working in a busy public space.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, or two years of education above high school, or a combination equating to 100% of qualifications
  • Previous customer service experience (highly preferred)
  • Ability to perform direct public services like registering patrons, charging/discharging materials, and processing overdues
  • Skills in maintaining shelves, preparing displays, and assisting with basic reference questions
  • Experience with technical library tasks such as basic cataloging, ordering/processing materials, and de-acquisitioning
  • Capability to maintain accountability records, perform shelf inventories, and do simple maintenance on automated systems
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, lift heavy items like boxes of books, and push loaded carts

Full Job Description

This position is located within the Business and Recreation Division of FMWR at Casey Memorial Library.

Our library offers a vast collection of over 70,000 items, including books, ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and music.

The library provides modern amenities such as free WiFi, public computers, and scanners.

There is a variety of programs provided for all ages, from children's story-time to book clubs, along with research assistance and interlibrary loan services. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

A qualified candidate must possess the following: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade Or Two years of education above high school Or A combination of specialized experience and education that equates to 100% of the qualification requirements.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Previous experience with customer service.

  • Provides technician support by performing a wide variety of direct services to the public: registers patrons, charges/discharges materials, processes overdues and reserves, assists with interlibrary loans and reserves.
  • Maintaining shelves library materials, prepares displays, programs activities, answers basic reference questions, and assists customers in locating materials.
  • Providing technical services support in a variety of functions: basic/copy cataloging, ordering/receiving/processing and de-acquisitioning of library materials.
  • Assists in maintaining accountability records and in performing shelf inventories. Performs simple maintenance on the library's automated systems.
  • Incumbent may perform physical exertion such as long periods of standing, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, pushing of loaded trucks; and recurring lifting of heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.
