This job is for a library assistant focused on youth services at a public library branch, where you'll help kids and families with books, computers, and fun programs while handling daily tasks like checking out materials and shelving books.
It's ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, has strong customer service skills, and is comfortable with technology in a team setting.
The role involves standing for long periods and some physical work, so it's best for energetic people who can adapt to varied shifts including evenings and weekends.
Provides regular coverage of Public Service desks.
Assists patrons with the use of computer, copier, scanners, and printers
Promotes in-person and online library services
Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment
Performs circulation/customer service activities by answering reference questions, checking materials in and out, registering new borrowers, and collecting library fees
Receives, sorts, and shelves library materials
Provides quality customer service in person and by telephone.
Proficient with technology – gaming systems, cameras, and other equipment as required
Assists patrons with equipment such as computer, copier, mobile devices, and scanner
Assists with maintaining and monitoring KidZone, Tween Station, and program room as required
Assists with preparing and executing book displays on children’s floor
Provides assistance with library youth services programming as needed
Must be able to stand up to six hours per shift; lift from ground to above shoulder; push and pull loaded carts; bend and stoop; reach shelves from floor level to approximately 6 feet in height using a step stool in narrow aisles and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to communicate effectively
Performs other duties as assigned.
