L&I’s Insurance Services’ Claims Initiation unit is seeking an office assistant looking for a challenge, and who is eager to grow and develop their skills.

If selected, your primary duties for this position include initiating time loss, medical-only and employer closure claims, answering incoming telephone calls, entering high volumes of data into the department mainframe system, and providing support to new staff and their peers.

As an Office Assistant 3, you will also communicate with internal and external customers via telephone, email and fax correspondence while multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is a diverse state agency dedicated to the safety, health, and security of Washington's workers.

Insurance Services is the largest division within the agency and administers one of the premier workers’ compensation organizations in the nation serving over 3.8 million employees working for 260,000 employers.

Requirements

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Reviews claim documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Communicates with internal and external customers.
  • Maintains the daily tracking system.
  • Provides phone support using the phone queue system.
  • Prepare certified mail, distribute incoming mail to appropriate staff, process return mail.
  • Provide back up and support for other office assistants.
  • Participates in projects assigned by the unit Supervisor.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of clerical and/or data entry experience.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 50 wpm including reduction for errors (verified through certified word per minute typing certificate).

AND

  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.


Desired:

  • More than two years’ experience in clerical/data entry roles.
  • Experience working in a professional office setting.
  • Experience with customer service via telephone.
  • Experience with medical terminology
  • Ability to type 55 WPM or more
