This job involves tracking and analyzing legislation related to defense and naval operations, advising military leaders on congressional matters, and coordinating visits from lawmakers to ensure smooth communication.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-11 level (for GS-12) or GS-12 level (for GS-13) in researching and analyzing legislation, such as defense bills and congressional hearings
  • Ability to maintain accurate status reports on bills and disseminate timely information to personnel
  • Experience establishing and maintaining hard copy and electronic files on legislative issues
  • Skills in monitoring legislative meetings and forecasting emerging issues relevant to military missions
  • Proficiency in coordinating travel arrangements, itineraries, and visits for congressional delegations (CODELs/STAFFDELs)
  • Knowledge of USINDOPACOM policies and ability to advise on congressional legislative issues
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain necessary security clearance

Full Job Description

You will serve as a LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS SPECIALIST within HEADQUARTERS US INDO-PACIFIC COMMAND.

GS- 12- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience demonstrates:1) Researching, analyzing, and compiling information concerning various types of legislation such as defense bills/issues, congressional hearings and related news articles under the direction of a supervisor; 2) Maintaining a status report of select bills throughout the legislative process disseminating to appropriate personnel ensuring information is accurate and timely under the direction and guidance of a supervisor; and 3) Establishing and maintaining hard copy and electronic subject matter files on legislative issues/actions.

GS-13- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience demonstrates: 1) Researching, analyzing, and compiling information concerning various types of legislation such as defense bills/issues, congressional hearings and related news articles; 2) Maintaining a status report of select bills throughout the legislative process disseminating to appropriate personnel ensuring information is accurate and timely; 3) Participating in coordinating travel arrangements including departure, meetings and briefings, lodging, transportation, social and/or recreational activities, and spouse and family member activities as required and allowed by regulations; 4) Monitoring various legislative meetings/sessions to inform personnel of significant issues or modifications; and 5) Establishing and maintaining hard copy and electronic subject matter files on legislative issues/actions.

  • You will advise the Commander, USINDOPACOM, staff, components, sub-unified commands and direct reporting units on Congressional legislative issues.
  • You will establish and maintain a hard copy file and electronic biography on each member of Congress on the following House and Senate committees and subcommittees.
  • You will conduct long-range legislative forecasting to identify emerging issues relevant to the command’s mission and analyzes proposed legislation for potential conflicts with existing policy or international agreements.
  • You will develop comprehensive CODEL/STAFFDEL itineraries aligned with USINDOPACOM’s strategic communication objectives.
  • You will respond to outside inquiries concerning established USINDOPACOM policy and provides guidance to USINDOPACOM staff and subordinate commands on questions relating to CODEL/STAFFDEL visits.
