Legal Assistant - Highways & Utilities

The Office of the Utah Attorney General has an immediate opening for a Legal Assistant in the Highways & Utilities Division. Individuals in this job perform a variety of legal secretarial duties such as preparing legal documents, scheduling trial calendars, collecting and organizing data and exhibits in connection with litigation, and providing other related support to attorneys and/or paralegals as needed to expedite legal services in a state agency. This position may be filled as a Legal Assistant I or II.

The position will be located in downtown Salt Lake City, but may be relocated to the Rampton Complex in Taylorsville in the future.

Requirements

  • Type, prepare and edit documents and correspondence from written documents or transcription. Review for accuracy and completeness. Make revisions, formatting and proof reading as necessary.
  • File documents with courts and assist in preparation for trials, mediation, and/or depositions.
  • Maintain and/or creates files, including sorting, labeling, filing and retrieving documents, or other materials. Archive files.
  • Enter and update case information into Legal Files database.
  • Enter billable time into Legal Files for attorneys as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining calendars, schedules and coordinate appointments.
  • Correspond with court clerks to facilitate certified copies and transcripts.
  • Receive calls and/or greet visitors, take and relay messages, respond to requests for information.
